The War of the Roses returns to Elland Road

It’s one of the fiercest rivalries in English football, and Elland Road is the setting for another meeting between Leeds United and Manchester United.

Daniel Farke’s Whites entered this encounter looking to build on April’s famous 2–1 victory at Old Trafford, when Noah Okafor scored twice.

That victory ended a 10-game Premier League winless run against their historic rivals, and Leeds arrived for this meeting unbeaten in seven home league matches.

Michael Carrick’s Manchester United, meanwhile, came into the game looking to turn around a difficult start to their Premier League campaign.

Mbeumo struck first for the visitors, but Calvert-Lewin’s second-half equaliser has brought Leeds back into the contest.

🌹 A rivalry with history

The Roses Derby draws its name from the historic rivalry between Yorkshire and Lancashire.

For Leeds supporters, this fixture carries special significance, stretching beyond the three Premier League points on offer.

And this season comes with another storyline: Leeds defeated Manchester United 2–1 at Old Trafford in April, thanks to two Noah Okafor goals.

Before today’s match, Leeds had not recorded consecutive league victories over Manchester United since 1971/72.
